REVIEW: Shoe Addicts Anonymous by Beth Harbison

Title: Shoe Addicts Anonymous
Author: Beth Harbison
Publisher: St. Martins Press
Publication Date: June, 2007
Genre: Chick-Lit
Buy The Book: Amazon | Barnes & Noble | Audible

Description: Helene Zaharis’s politician husband keeps her on a tight leash and cancels her credit cards as a way of controlling her. Lorna Rafferty is up to her eyeballs in debt and can't stop her addiction to Ebay. Sandra Vanderslice, battling agoraphobia, pays her shoe bills by working as a phone sex operator. And Jocelyn Bowen is a nanny for the family from hell (who barely knows a sole from a heel but who will do anything to get out of the house). On Tuesday nights, these women meet to trade shoes, and, in the process, form friendships that will help them each triumph over their problems—from secret pasts to blackmail, bankruptcy, and dating. Funny, emotional, and powerful, Shoe Addicts Anonymous is the perfect read for any woman who has ever struggled to find the perfect fit.

My Thoughts: Cute story about shoe addiction that brings four women together once a week to trade designer shoes. These women are from completely different walks of life, but along the way, they become friends as they deal with their shoe addictions, personal problems and living their lives. The author does a wonderful job of introducing each character, spending enough time with each one to give the reader an opportunity to bond and empathize with them. Fans of chick-lit and romance novels will enjoy the quirky humor each character brings to the story.

REVIEW: 'Twas The Nate Before Christmas by Sophie Sloane

Title: ‘Twas The Nate Before Christmas
Author: Sophie Sloane
Publisher: Sophie Sloane
Publication Date: December, 2014
Genre: Chick Lit
Buy The Book: Amazon

Description: Daisy, a young, American woman, has moved to Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, England. Amidst the hustle and bustle of the town centre at Christmastime, she rather clumsily falls to the ground. She looks up to see the most handsome face she had ever seen. Nate. It was love at first fall.

He is a gardener at Friar Park, but things don’t seem to add up, as he is constantly jumping into black sports cars, using code names, and hiding her from his friends. At other times, he is the perfect gentleman; wining and dining her at fancy restaurants, zipping around on their scooters, and wooing her with his British wit and banter.

Will he tell her the truth, or will she end up alone at Christmas?

My Thoughts: Cute little Christmas novelette about Daisy, a young American woman living in England meeting the man of her dreams when she falls, literally, at his feet. Nate isn’t all he claims or appears to be. As far as Daisy knows, Nate is a gardener at George Harrison’s estate, but every time Daisy sees him, he’s getting into or out of fancy sports cars and keeping company with people who appear to be celebrities. Daisy is convinced his “Uncle Paul” is THE Paul McCartney, but maybe her eyes are playing tricks on her…or are they? As Daisy gets to know Nate better, the more questions about Nate’s identity and intentions come to light.

Daisy and Nate were likable characters that were easy to relate to. The twist on Nate’s true identity was an interesting and charming revelation and made the story more fanciful. This story is a quick read that will be a great addition to any reader’s Christmas reading list.

Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy of ’Twas The Nate Before Christmas from the author in exchange for an honest review.
