My Thoughts: Melody Bittersweet is back with her friends and one-eared Pug, Lestat to clear Maplemead Castle from a circus troupe of ghosts and their lion. Yes, there’s a ghost lion named Goliath who Lestat makes his displeasure about known. Melody’s ex, Leo Dark, and reporter Fletcher Gunn are also back which I thought added more interesting aspects to the story.

I enjoyed this book very much and couldn’t wait to find out the backstory of the ghostly circus performers and the author didn’t disappoint. This story had me laughing out loud, especially when Lestat squares off to a ghost lion and made my eyes tear up when I learned the tragic story of Britannia as well as learning more about Fletcher’s back story. He really grew on me in this installment and I am eager to see if he and Melody continue to connect. Surprisingly, I also felt less irritation and annoyance towards Leo this time around.

I liked Melody and found her easy to relate to and appreciate the care and concern she demonstrates for both the living and the deceased. I keep hoping that Marina and Artie will get together too but so far, they remain steadfast colleagues.

This story offers the perfect blend of fun, charm, mystery, intrigue and romance fans of cozy mysteries will expect. The characters are easy to connect with and relate to and the plot flows smoothly. If you prefer audiobook formats, the narration of this book was expertly performed by Cat Gould.

This book ends on the assumption that Melody and her crew will be starting another case but so far I have been unable to confirm there will be a third book in this series. I hope there will be because it would be a great disappointment to see this series stall with so many unanswered questions.

My Final Verdict: Overall, this story was fantastic and I highly recommend it to fans of cozy mysteries, romances, stories featuring dogs with or without both of their ears and ghosts.

My Thoughts: I don’t know if I would have had the same experience with a different format. I originally received the e-book format from the publisher, but in an effort decrease the size of my backlog, I found the audiobook format at the library. I absolutely loved this story, largely in part to the audio narration by Imogen Church, which was fantastic. She puts a lot of emotion into the narration that gave me the sense that I am in the room with Poppy and made her more relatable and easy to like and get to know.

This was also my first experience with this author and I will be looking for more of her work. Colleen Coleman’s writing style is witty and engaging. The characters are easy to relate to and like. The storyline was clever and easy to follow.

I thought Poppy Bloom (what a fantastic name!) was a wonderful character and I shared her outrage at being robbed of her fellowship at the University, getting dumped by her loser boyfriend and learning he has moved on with her good friend. Moving back home with a psychology doctorate degree with no job or prospects on the horizon would send most of us into a spiral of depression and it does for Poppy, but I admired how she pulls herself up and starts putting one foot in front of the other determined to grab life by the horns. Reuniting with her childhood mate, Leanne and her twin Tom was fun to watch. Through a comedy of errors, Poppy finds herself listening to the popular radio station which leads her to calling into the show and a chance at a job where she can make a difference and help real people with their real problems.

This story weaves around Poppy’s life including her struggles to find her place in the world, navigating her estranged relationship with her father, joining Leanne’s netball team and her growing feelings for Tom. This story had me laughing out loud many times and gasping in shock throughout the entire story, I was fully engaged and in anticipation for what Poppy would encounter next.

My Final Verdict: Overall, this was a fantastic story and fans of chick-lit and contemporary romance will enjoy it too. I highly recommend this story to readers who like underdog characters who face adversity and come out on the other side better off.

My Thoughts: Some would describe this story as an enemies to lovers story, but Sarah and Ben really weren’t hateful to one another or at war. Instead, this was more a story involving two people have known each other their entire lives and were pretty competitive with one another. There were some hard feelings on Sarah’s part because of her high school science project being destroyed, but had these two spent a half hour having a discussion, that would have been cleared up very quickly.

Sarah’s best friend, Jill is getting married. Sarah is the maid of honor and Ben is the best man. Jill is distraught because she was unable to retrieve a family heirloom from her grandmother’s house and believes her marriage will be doomed to fail if she gets married without it. With the wedding set to take place in Sacramento in a few short days, Sarah and Ben decide to go to Atlanta to retrieve the charm and save the wedding. Of course, Sarah is in full competition mode, convinced that Ben is only going to try to one up her as she has believed he has done all their lives. I was really happy that they decide to join forces in Atlanta and with the help of a lost dog they rescue and name Moose, it appears they have a truce and there are a lot of unresolved feelings. The catch is that retrieving the heirloom is not going to be a quick task. They have to go on a wild scavenger hunt of sorts, pretending to be the engaged couple and pretending to be in love to convince the friends of Jill’s grandmother that they deserve the heirloom.

The tasks they are assigned to do were a lot of fun, but with the ticking clock, Sarah and Ben don’t have a lot of time to enjoy the ambience of Atlanta. I especially loved that one of the tasks required them to go to an Atlanta Braves baseball game and have their picture taken at home plate. The quick thinking and ingenuity this couple uses to accomplish the tasks were quite entertaining and fun to witness.

This book was my first experience with the writing of Susan Hatler and I will be looking for more of her work. I immensely enjoyed her writing style and the attention to detail she gives to Atlanta and Buckhead, which gave me a real sense of being there. I loved Sarah and Ben and thought they made a great team and the addition of Moose the lost dog added more charm and fun to this story.

My Final Verdict: Overall, this was a great story and I highly recommend it to fans of contemporary romances, stories involving dogs and scavenger hunts as well as stories that feature characters who are willing to go the extra mile for their friends and for each other.

My Thoughts: First of all, it is imperative that you read The Devil Wears Prada before this one or you will not understand the backstory of Andrea and Emily’s time working for Miranda Priestly and why the mere mention of her name sends Andrea into a spiral of the highest anxiety. I experienced it as well. Interestingly this story’s focus isn’t about Miranda, though she makes a few appearances, she is really in the background, likely filing her claws and feasting on the souls of the unfortunate girls who have made the catastrophic mistake of wanting to work for her. Instead, this story picks up about ten years after the first book. Andy and Emily have reconnected and become (gasp!) best friends and have created a wedding magazine. Andy is set to walk down the aisle with the love of her life, Max Harrison. Everything should be sunshine and daisies in Andy’s world, but it isn’t.

On the morning of her wedding, Andy receives information that fills her with doubts about marrying Max. The magazine that she and Emily have created and worked so hard for several years to make it a success has caught the eye of Elias Clarke and none other than the devil herself, Miranda Priestly, who has been promoted to a managing editor position and they want to buy Andy and Emily’s magazine with the stipulation that the editorial staff continue to work for Miranda for one year.

This news has Andy in a near panic, but Emily is ecstatic. Emily refuses to see how this sale will put them back under Miranda’s thumb and after what happened to both of them while working for Miranda a decade ago, Andy is shocked that Emily would consider it at all, much less be over the moon about it.

I have to say that I was in complete agreement with Andy. Selling their magazine seemed so tragic to me after all the hard work they put into it, even though the financial windfall they would receive would be fantastic. The bizarre point that Elias Clark and Miranda insist that the editorial staff work for her for a year made no sense and they wouldn’t budge on that issue. Obviously, Miranda has some nefarious plan up her sleeve to retaliate in some way but it is never made completely known and you will have to read this book to find out what happens!

I tried reading this book in audiobook format back in 2019 and could not get into the story. Maybe it was the narrator or maybe I just couldn’t wrap my head around the idea that Andy and Emily become best friends and partners. This time I went with the e-book format and I absolutely loved it. It didn’t take long to get reacquainted with all of the characters from the first book who also make an appearance in this book as well as new characters. The author does an excellent job of illustrating Andy’s world of high fashion, publishing, celebrity weddings as well as pregnancy and first time motherhood.

My Final Verdict: Overall, it was wonderful catching up with Andy again and though Emily was never my favorite person, it was interesting to see what these women have been up and how far they have come. I don’t know if Miranda Priestly will be in the third book, but you know the devil has a way of showing up when you least expect it. I highly recommend this book to readers of chick lit and women’s fiction.

My Thoughts: The Victim by new to me author Gillian Jackson introduces the reader to Caron Rivers after she has stabbed her husband to death. What follows is a tale of an emotionally damaged woman who tells the authorities of the torture and abuse she suffered at the hands of her husband before she stabbed him in self-defense. Victims of domestic violence may find this story triggering.

The twisty bits of this story come as the investigation begins to uncover more questions as to the validity of Caron’s claims of abuse. As I listened, I felt an increasing sense of anticipation of whether or not she was the victim or the villain. My opinion of her changed just as rapidly as more layers of the story were revealed and more layers of this character’s personality are peeled back.

The story moves at a brisk pace without burying the listener under mountains of details. I really enjoyed the author’s plotting and look forward to more of her work. The narration by Hannah Curtis was expertly performed and gives the reader a clear picture of the nature of the characters in this story.

My Final Verdict: Overall, this was a compelling story that kept me on the edge of my seat. I highly recommend this book to fans of suspense, thriller and mystery genres. Readers who like having twisty details that pull the rug out from under them will also enjoy this one.

My Thoughts: Passion on Park Avenue by new to me author Lauren Layne introduces us to three women, who by all intents and purposes should never have met or became friends. Two of these women are the mistresses of the third woman’s husband and these women meet on the day of the husband’s funeral. Awkward,, yes, Captain Obvious, but this trope pulled me all the way into the story. Who needs salacious daytime talk shows when this book provides everything enquiring minds want to know?

This is the first book in a series and I absolutely insist you read this one before the others as there is a lot of background detail on the three women that is crucial to know beforehand. This story is about one of the mistresses, Naomi, who still carries the shame of her mother’s affair with her mother’s employer and the fallout it brought to their lives. Now, decades later, Naomi is finally in a financial position to go for one of the apartments in the building on Park Avenue where she and her mother lived while working for the elite Cunningham family. Naomi carries a lot of anger towards this family because the Cunningham son, Oliver, lied about the affair, causing Naomi and her mother to be thrown into the street, penniless and homeless. The best part of this is that Oliver doesn’t remember his childhood playmate and his father is in the advanced stages of Alzheimer’s so he doesn’t remember much of anything either. I was on pins and needles watching this play out and the chemistry between Naomi and Oliver was palpable. I even felt a little bit of empathy and compassion for Oliver’s father, though he wasn’t a nice man before his illness and was hard to tolerate now at times.

In addition to Naomi and Oliver, I really liked the other two women, Claire and Audrey and look forward to getting to know them better in their stories. The plot moves at a wonderful pace and kept me fully engaged.

My Final Verdict: Overall, I found this story to be charming and hard to put down. I highly recommend it to readers who enjoy stories of unsuccessful revenge, letting go of past pain and characters who rise up from the ashes of their past trauma with head held high.

My Thoughts: In all honesty, the best thing about this book was the narration performance by Patrick Zeller.

This story had so much potential. The main protagonist was a likable character in the beginning. He’s a former FBI agent who now has his own private investigation firm and is carrying enormous trauma after his young daughter was murdered in a home invasion. He seems to be moving forward in his life being a single parent to his two other children after suffering a painful divorce. He is a character I usually can empathize with and relate to.

When he starts investigating a string of murders of wealthy men and learns they are all members of the same dating app, he goes undercover and with the help of his assistant, creates a profile and ultimately meets a woman he falls hard for. She also happens to be his number one suspect in the murders, so what does he do? Sleeps with her. Yes, his brain takes an immediate exit stage right and he starts thinking with his other brain.

This story was beyond illogical and completely inappropriate for a character with the law enforcement background he has. Why did I keep listening? I kept hoping that somehow his investigation would reveal this woman was not who he suspected her to be, but instead, everything kept pointing to her being involved somehow, if not as the killer, certainly as an accomplice.

My Final Verdict: Based on the ratings of other readers, this book does appeal to some but not to me and I cannot recommend it.

My Thoughts: You’re probably thinking that if you have read one fake dating relationship trope, you’ve read them all. Let’s face it, this is a common plot device in many romance novels and some are definitely better than others. This is one of the better ones. Can you imagine anything worse than finally making it home after a Thanksgiving holiday with your family, you’re tired, the trip was long and the last thing you want is to make chit chat with anyone. You want to get yourself and your suitcases up to your apartment where you can shower, unpack and relax. Instead, the elevator doesn’t cooperate and you find yourself stuck inside with your very attractive and sexy neighbor. With nothing but several hours of waiting to be rescued ahead of them, Hannah opens up the cookie tin and bottle of wine and begins to get to know her neighbor, Gage.

This story was very charming. Being trapped in an elevator doesn’t sound like a lot of fun, but it gives Hannah and Gage the opportunity to get to know one another better and they learn a lot about each other’s lives and families. Hannah is skipping spending Christmas with her family because she is working hard on a presentation that will hopefully win her the promotion she has been vying for. She feels inadequate around her family because her sisters are both doctors and she works in interior design. Gage is dreading spending Christmas with his family because of their relentless matchmaking. Over a bottle of wine and several delicious Christmas cookies, he suggests that they pretend date to get his family off his back.

It becomes obvious very quickly that neither one of them can keep up the charade and the line between keeping up appearances and falling in love gets more difficult to see. I really liked Hannah and Gage and thought they had the perfect chemistry and enjoyed seeing it all unfold.

In all honesty, I didn’t have a lot of anticipation about reading this book because of the fake dating relationship trope. This is my second least favorite plot device after adultery because I feel relationships are hard work already and starting a relationship with a lie for any reason just doesn’t sit well with me. This story, however, flipped me on my head because the fake relationship was never fake and nobody was lied to as Gage falls hard for Hannah and has to figure out how to convince her that she feels the same way and Christmas is the most magical time of the year and miracles are all around them.

The author does an amazing job of giving us characters that are likable and easy to relate to. The story is well paced and despite my initial reservations, I quickly became immersed in the story, the characters and the location where Gage grew up.

My Final Verdict: Overall, this charming story would be an excellent choice for readers who crave Christmas themes during the holiday season as I do. This story will make you smile and feel all the feels. Grab those Christmas cookies and a glass of spiced wine, eggnog or cider and snuggle down in front of the fireplace with this book for several hours of Christmas cheer happiness.

My Thoughts: This was a lot of fun to listen to mainly because Andi Arndt and Teddy Hamilton are so massively talented that they make just about every book they narrate a pleasure to listen to. This book was my first experience with this author and I look forward to more of her Christmas rom com’s.

I really loved the way Molly and Liam meet for the first time on a plane to celebrate the holiday with family. Their chemistry is apparent but instead of exchanging numbers or email addresses, Molly consumes too much bubbly and reveals too much about her family and her new side hustle, which has netted her a million unexpected dollars in her bank account.

When Molly arrives at the lavish home she is staying with her parents, sister, future brother in law and his family, she is shocked to discover that her seatmate on the plane is none other than her future brother in law’s brother. How many ways can we say awkward? Liam and Molly manage to keep their meeting a secret and it turns out that he and everybody else in the house are harboring secrets of their own.

I adored Molly and Liam. I know this is not the first instance of the daughters in one family ending up with the sons in another family, but I loved how they clicked as friends and then as lovers and not wanting to steal the attention away from their siblings and the upcoming nuptials. It took me a bit longer to warm up to Liam’s parents and his brother as they come across as very pretentious in the beginning and I liked how protective of her family Molly is.

My Final Verdict: Overall, this book was a lot of fun and spending a week in a luxurious home with all the Christmas cheer and festivities sounds like a lot of fun. I highly recommend this story to fans of Christmas themes, contemporary romance and readers who enjoy stories where all of the characters are keeping secrets.

My Thoughts: This series really hits the spot at Christmas time. With a character named Holly White, a town named Mistletoe and a business called Reindeer Games Inn, it’s just begging for a visit from the fat man in a red suit but I am beginning to suspect he’s already there.

In this installment, we find Holly busy planning her wedding (on Christmas Eve, of course!) to Sheriff Evan Gray and hosting a ballet troupe at the Inn. In Mistletoe, it wouldn’t be Christmas without the parade and the fun and frolic at Holly’s parent’s farm either, as well as murder, which seems to be an annual occurrence. As with the other stories in this series, Holly finds herself smack dab in the middle of the investigation so you know she will also be in the killer’s sights at some point. Normally, I would get annoyed at a non-law enforcement professional inserting themselves into a murder investigation but in this series, it just seems to find Holly, no matter how many snickerdoodles she is juggling on her already heaping plate.

The murder victim is the prima ballerina of the ballet company so there are a lot of suspects to choose from including all of the other dancers, the troupe’s manager and a mysterious ballet blogger who nobody has ever seen or met in person. Anybody familiar with this series already knows Christmas is a very big deal for the residents of Mistletoe and with Holly’s wedding coming up, yet another murder during the holiday season can make a Grinch out of anyone, but I really love how Holly, her friends and her family seem to take it in stride and get on with the season’s festivities.

Another wonderful thing about this series are the secondary characters that I have come to care about as much as Holly and Evan. There’s a sidebar mystery involving Evan’s sister which begins to derail her blossoming relationship with Ray and Holly’s best friend Caroline appears to have found a love interest too, so I am looking forward to the next installment to see what is going on there as well as who becomes the next dearly departed.

The author does such a wonderful job of bringing the town of Mistletoe and its residents to life, that I easily felt at home there and could be friends with everyone. I really love Holly and Evan as a couple and am looking forward to reconnecting with them again.

My Final Verdict: Overall, I highly recommend this story to readers who love Christmas themes and cozy mysteries.

My Thoughts: I didn’t realize that this story is part of the author’s Hart Sisters series, which I have not read any of. Normally, this would put me off reading this book because I don’t enjoy feeling like I’m coming into the story where previous events from the other books are alluded to. Though this does happen in this story, I decided to overlook it and I’m glad I did because the story was enjoyable and learning that I might actually hate Britt and Adrian if I read the other stories, I probably won’t read them because I actually liked Britt and Adrian a lot.

I don’t think developing feelings for your best friend’s husband is ever a good idea but the way Britt and Adrian dealt with it was likely the only way, however, their feelings ran so much deeper and even though Britt tried to do the admirable thing and stay away from them, Adrian and his wife got divorced anyway. My only issue with this story was Britt’s desire to get her friendship with Adrian’s ex-wife back. I think Britt is asking for the impossible, especially when Reese finds out that Britt and Adrian do get together.

This book moves pretty fast with each chapter alternating between Britt and Adrian’s perception, which I really enjoy. I thought the characters were easy to relate to and it was easy to see how their friendship could begin to blossom into something more and it was quite sweet to witness.

My Final Verdict: Overall, this story is a good addition to the Christmas reading list. I recommend it to readers who enjoy Christmas themes, forbidden love and second chance tropes.

My Thoughts: Another disappointing offering in this series that I thought would deliver more Christmas whimsy, charm and humor. Instead, this story brings us Nina and William, two professors moonlighting when they get stuck in a blizzard. Nina has been attracted to William since he began working with her but Nina thinks he and her best friend are a thing. Unbeknownst to Nina, William is attracted to her, but neither one has the courage to speak up. Then in the blink of an eye, they are all over each other. It felt forced and unrealistic, no relationship or character development.

My Final Verdict: A lot of miscommunication and assumptions and misunderstandings make this a book I cannot fully recommend. The plot dragged and the characters felt like cardboard. The narration by Andi Arndt was good but not even she could turn it around for me.

My Thoughts: Though the cover is absolutely adorable, this was just an OK read for me, it was too explicit and not funny enough. I liked Evie and Luke and their introductory scenes about him not being able to find a pair of jeans that fit his hulking frame were amusing but the story just never maintained any of the humor I am looking for in this series. This author is new to me but I have a couple of her other titles waiting on my shelf to be read. Due to the explicit content, go with the e-book or make sure you have earbuds on if you choose to listen to this.

My Final Verdict: Overall, this book had some amusing and sweet moments, but not enough for me to fully recommend this book.

My Thoughts: This is a great choice to add to the Christmas reading list this year if you are looking for more spice and less whimsy. Cruel Winter with You by new to me author Ali Hazelwood is a short story but packs a lot of pizazz. This is the first book in a series but each book can be read as a standalone. The audio performance by Vivienne LaRue was fantastic.

Jamie and Marc have known each other all their lives. Jamie is Marc’s sister’s best friend and Marc has been in love with her since he was fifteen. When Marc decided the time was right to declare his feelings, Jamie shot him down and wasn’t very gentle or kind about it. Now, months later, Jamie is at his parent’s front door to borrow a copper pan for her Dad’s Christmas ham. A very timely blizzard traps her there with Marc and they have nothing but time between them to clear the air and start asking and answering some long awaited questions.

I really liked Jamie and Marc and though their conflict boiled down to a stupid misunderstanding, I liked that they were willing to address it before years and years went by like so many stories with this plot device do. This story switches between the past and present flawlessly to give the reader a close up view of what transpired throughout their lives, which I really enjoyed.

My Final Verdict: Overall, this story was really good. This entire series offers up the heated side of Christmas instead of the cute and whimsical so the mandatory hot chocolate may need to be iced when reading. I highly recommend this book to readers who love Christmas themes and spicy romance.

My Thoughts: OK, here’s the thing. The description of this book would lead one, OK me, to believe this story is a hilarious, laugh until you cry book and it is. It’s also sad, tragic and sentimental. First of all, I loved the entire Collins family and I seriously want to do Christmas with them, in the snow with all the trimmings. I was easily able to grasp how close knit this family is, but also how dysfunctional they are as individuals. You know, normal people.

Our protagonist, Whitney, is the youngest of three and adored aunt to her nieces and nephews. She has a close bond with her siblings and their spouses and has a good relationship with her parents who are a riot. She never married or had children and never followed the dreams she had or tackled her birthday bucket list. Prior to arriving at the cabin, Whitney has had one mishap after another, so she’s running really low on Christmas cheer.

Eli is Whitney’s college sweetheart. They dated for eight months over seventeen years ago and Eli abruptly ended it without any valid reason and broke Whitney’s heart. It’s a safe assumption to say she never really got over it, so imagine her shock, dismay and horror when Eli shows up for the family Christmas with her brother and his family!

The shenanigans that ensue throughout this book were fantastic, not just for Whitney and Eli, but for the rest of the family. These secondary characters quickly worked their way into the story so fully that I sometimes forgot this was supposed to be about Whitney and Eli.

The story moves at a wonderful pace and I was on pins and needles at what would happen next. I loved Whitney and Eli as a couple as well as individually and though I knew these two would find their way back together, I was shocked when Eli finally confesses to Whitney why he broke her heart. This story will make you feel all the feels so keep a box of tissues handy. The author does a brilliant job of creating a story that pulls the reader into the lives of these amazing characters and I hope she writes more Christmas themed stories, especially involving these characters. The audiobook was wonderfully narrated by Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell. They brought not only the personalities of the characters to life but their feelings and emotions were performed so expertly, I felt like I was in the room with them.

My Final Verdict: Overall, this was a wonderful addition to the Christmas reading list for this year. The joy of the season and love this family has for one another is keenly felt in this story despite the baggage these characters are carrying. I highly recommend this story to readers who love stories with a Christmas theme complete with lots of snow, forgiveness and second chances. Prop those fuzzy socked feet up, grab some nog and celebrate the season with this book.

My Thoughts: The Christmas Season is so busy that it’s the only time of the year that I don’t mind short stories. In fact, I make a point of looking for the shorter Christmas themes. They are wonderful for adding festive cheer to what can be a very stressful and anxiety ridden time. Holiday Hideaway by the very talented Mary Kay Andrews hits the mark for readers looking for a little escape from the frenzy of holiday.

Tilly and George were wonderful characters and Tilly’s dog, Smoosh, was a little bit of a scene stealer, but I love stories that feature dogs or cats prominently so even better. Tilly has been evicted from her apartment because of Smoosh (what a Scrooge!) and her new apartment won’t be ready until after the holiday. With absolutely nowhere else to go and no money for a hotel because of the deposits she had to pay on her new place, Tilly is squatting in one of the vacant properties her employer manages. No big deal, right? It won’t hurt anyone.

George and his siblings and cousin have inherited this house from their Great-Uncle Gus who is not so great and probably knew Tilly’s landlord on a first name basis. George arrives from Boston to assess the house and what needs to be done to make it sale ready, unaware that Tilly is hiding out in the attic. What ensues is so much fun and I thought these two were a hoot. The awesome thing is that they already know each other from high school but don’t realize right away. Unforeseen events force Tilly out of hiding and she’s worried that George will have her arrested for squatting and she will be fired and homeless for real, but I absolutely loved how this all played out.

This story is really short and can be read in a couple of hours. The pace is pretty fast but the reader will have no problem keeping up and will likely be surprised when it’s all over. I would love to see this author revisit Tilly, George and Smoosh in the future.

My Final Verdict: Overall, I highly recommend this book to readers who love Christmas themes, lots of snow, festive cheer and dogs. Squatting in vacant houses is not recommended but putting on fuzzy socks and sipping eggnog by the fireplace while reading this book is a must.

My Thoughts: If you are looking for a short but heartwarming Christmas story, then look no further! Married by Midnight by Talli Roland gave me all the feels! Getting married is a big decision and not one to be taken lightly. One should always learn to listen to their instincts and trust their gut and not place their fate and future in the hands of fortune tellers or astrology charts. Everyone, including her mother, is telling Kate that marrying Tim is the right thing to do, that he’s perfect for her, but Kate is wondering if that’s true. She’s experiencing major doubts but really wants to believe the opinions of others.

While wedding dress shopping, Kate finds a vintage 1930’s wedding dress that fits her perfectly and appears to have been waiting just for her. After she gets the dress home, Kate discovers a handwritten note attached to the dress wishing her the best of luck. This compels Kate on a journey to track down the writer of the note and learn of that woman’s journey because Kate thinks if that woman had a long and happy marriage, then Kate will too. I know, it doesn’t make sense to put the fate of one’s life in the hands of a woman who previously owned a wedding dress and assuming that if her life turned out beautifully, so will Kate’s. Like Kate, I was completely enthralled by the dress and had to know about the woman who owned it all those years ago.

The result is so much more than I was expecting and it completely blew me away. I liked Kate and admired her courage to ask the tough questions instead of going through blindly hoping that she’s making the right decision. I wish the book had been a little bit longer because I would love to know what happens next, but the author leaves it open ended so the reader can draw their own conclusions.

My Final Verdict: Overall, I loved this story and though it was very short, it packed quite a punch in the emotions. I highly recommend this book to fans of Christmas themed stories that are brimming with romance, second chances and forgiveness.

My Thoughts: When we said goodbye to Maddy and Leanne at the end of The Road Trip, they were preparing for their next leg of their summer adventure, cruising the Dalmatian Islands. This story picks up practically right after the last book ends, so I recommend you read the first book before this one as you don’t want to miss the excitement of not only winning the lottery but the fun they have.

This story introduces new characters who bring some interesting depth to the story and though I was curious about all of these people going on the cruise with our lottery winners, I was more interested in what would happen between Maddy and Leanne when their holiday was over and it was time to go home. What would they do? Maddy and Leanne’s father, Erik, were in the start of something resembling a relationship in the last book and I was curious about whether that would continue and if Leanne would take her father up on his offer to take over his perfume company and whether there was love on the horizon for her. This book ties up all the loose threads for me and then some.

I loved the detail and the obvious research the author did on the various locales Maddy and Leanne visit in this book. I have never been to Florence or Croatia, but thanks to the author, the reader will feel like they are there. I think I gained ten pounds visualizing all of the succulent food they consume on this holiday as well. I don’t know if there will be another book in this series but it would be wonderful to tag along with Maddy to Australia to visit her daughter.

I really enjoyed getting to know Maddy and Leanne better. These characters were very easy to relate to and like and it was nice to see that winning a bunch of money didn’t change who they were at their core.

My Final Verdict: Living vicariously through Maddy and Leanne while they are on their lottery financed holiday has been a wonderful experience. I highly recommend this book to readers who like exotic locales and stories that feature characters who aren’t afraid to live their best life.
